Job Opportunity – Money Matters Coach – Financial Capability and Budgeting Support

Citizens Advice Waltham Forest currently have two posts available.

The post-holder will be required to support project clients to improve their budgeting skills and help them to better manage their money.

This will include assisting clients to:

  • Work out monthly income and outgoings;
  • Recognise priority bills, such as rent;
  • Identify and cut-back on non-essentials;
  • Maximise their income (benefit check and referral);
  • Complete and maintain a budget plan;
  • Open and maintain a transactional bank account;
  • Set up direct debits for prioritised payments.

BACKGROUND

 At Citizens Advice Waltham Forest we understand the importance of preventative work and want to help people before potential problems escalate.

Financial literacy/budgeting support does just this – it helps people develop the skills and confidence to better manage their money and avoid money problems – which we know can lead to debt, housing and other related issues.

We are advertising this new role now because we have been awarded a contract under which we will deliver financial capability and budgeting support services to new Universal Credit (UC) claimants to help them manage the transition. The role will sit within the social housing team because it is envisaged that there will be high referrals from tenants needing support to manage their money and sustain their tenancy and there will need to be close liaison with other colleagues in the social housing team.

This is a new project; the referral rates are uncertain and the referral routes untested. We anticipate demand for the project growing over time but effort will need to be put in the early stages to help as many people as possible quickly. The role holder will in the first month support the setup of this project in liaison with the Quality & Network Coordinator.

The role will not involve advise or casework and if a requirement for debt or benefits (or other) advice is identified an internal referral will be made following a CIA and a benefit check. The post holder will also be expected to use MART.
